Just in case you’re interested, the dentist who replaced my fillings is Ray Behm, Natural Dentistry.  As you’ll read in the story, not only is he an excellent dentist, but is extremely knowledgeable about the issue of amalgams and mercury toxicity (and no, I don’t receive any compensation for saying so). 

We set up an appointment with Dr. Behm for Thursday July 13th for a consultation and x-rays.  We also set up an appointment for the actual removal on the 16th (Sunday).  I was impressed that the Dr. would work on Sundays.

The first impression we had from Dr. Behm’s office was how the receptionist—Mercedes—was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful.  This was not necessarily uncommon, though, as we called several other offices who’s staff were very helpful too.

My partner Laura and I must have kept her on the phone, drilling her with questions, for over 40 minutes, the first time we called!  Mercedes never missed a beat.  I was particularly impressed with the fact that the others in the office seemed equally well-informed (we talked to someone else soon after), and I was impressed with the fact that this office used special x-ray equipment that uses only 1/5th the amount of radiation as a conventional machine.  That’s important to me and showed that this office really is concerned with keeping up with the latest stuff and protecting their patients!

When we met with the Dr. Behm on Thursday, we were very impressed.  Laura and I were late because our truck broke down on the way.  The taxi driver told us we had “good karma” because he almost never hit all the green lights on Drew street.

I was encouraged with the attitude of the personnel that worked with the dentist.  Trudy promptly took us in for our X-rays.  I could tell that she took a real pride in her work.  She narrated for me as she did all her stuff and seemed to be proud to be using the “good” type of x-ray equipment in the office.  She also was exceptionally knowledgeable about the whole amalgam/mercury thing.  It quickly became apparent to me that the people in this office really were “into” what they do.  I like that… I like that a lot!  Even their computer screen-savers had a scrolling message that said, “Dr. Behm is the Best Dentist!”  I’d never seen anything like that before.

When I met with Dr. Behm, Laura sat in.  This was honestly like no other dentist appointment I’ve had before.  He narrated us through his entire initial inspection of my mouth showing strengths, weaknesses and explaining the causes and solutions.  He brought things to my attention that I’d never been aware of. 

Naturally, Laura and I drilled the dentist with questions and more questions.  I appreciated his mixture of kindness and frankness.  We shared with him what we had learned from our research (which he was obviously familiar with) and he replied by complementing our information with even more information from other sources.  He would often name the sources as he spoke about preferred methods of treatment, showing us that he obviously keeps up on all the latest research.

I honestly thought we’d go in and end up teaching some poor dentist a thing or two.  We often do… you know, we are in the field of research.  We have our noses in it all the time.   But this was not the case with Dr. Behm.  He shared a lot of information with us that we had not even heard of.  He was familiar with the work and research of several different doctors and even shared with us some of the apparent contradictions in each of their preferred methods of treatment.

During the session, the Behm performed kinesiology (muscle testing) on both of us.  This went on for over an hour!  During this time, the dentist tested different materials, although he often tends towards 4 that are generally considered to be really safe.  Laura tested good for DiamondLite, while I was among the 15% who don’t do so well with it.  I tested well for another one of the four well-known safe materials.

Please note that, although I don’t personally practice kinesiology, I know that there a many who do and claim to have tremendous results with it.  It is my personal preference to stay close to good science (there is a lot of politically-motivated “bad science” out there), but I fully understand the importance of allowing others to practice their conscience.  After all, I once believed that herbal supplements were quackery (even though I had nothing good to base that opinion on).  Now, the quality of my live is greatly enhanced by them.

After we were done, we ended up talking for awhile with Mercedes (who turned out to be the dentist’s wife).  She showed us a bunch of the books and videos that she keeps in the office to share with visitors.  This is an informed office!  And I might also add, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such organization.  This was one of the few offices—of any kind—where I’ve seen this level of organization . . . everything in its place!

Well, needless to say, by the time we left the office we were confident we had made a good decision.  Neither one of us were looking forward to Sunday (who looks forward to going to the dentist?), but we were comfortable with having Behm perform the work and very anxious to get the mercury out!

I recently had a filling fall out and called the office to see when I could get it handled.  It was not an emergency, I was not in pain and would have waited for Dr. Behm, my dentist, to see me whenever he could.  The fact is, I got an appointment the following morning at 8:00 am. This was excellent service as far as I was concerned for a busy dentist who is always in demand.

When I arrived the next morning, Dr. Behm was there ready for me.  He simply took me in and handled the refill and everything connected with doing this the way he does – muscle testing for the proper filling material (composite), making sure everything was compatible with my body, etc.  He did everything immediately and finished in time for me to get to work without a problem, even though he could have probably used the time for other pressing things.

I would always come to Dr. Behm first, as I have found him to the best technician I have ever been to, as well as the fact that he stays in communication with you so well when you’re in the chair and lets you know exactly what he is doing.

However, above and beyond this, and the point of this Success is the quality of service one gets from Dr. Behm and his whole staff is far beyond what I’ve experienced elsewhere.  I personally don’t know anyone who works the hours that Dr. Behm does, and services people at times that would be considered to be “after hours” for any other business.  In a dentist office this usually includes more than just the dentist, which means others put in the same dedication in assisting, lab work and reception duties.  This would only happen if this intention was generated at the top, and it is here, which results in a quality of service found in few other places, regardless of what type of business you are looking at.

If you want the best, most natural, non-traumatic and holistic dentistry then you are now connected to the right guy and the right office.  That’s pretty bright of you, actually, finding him; well done!!

The cavitation surgery I had done years ago has held, as well as all the other work done over the years.  I do not use any other dentist, even if I’m working on the west coast – I come back to Dr. Behm’s office.

The quality of work, final product and service you get from Dr. Behm and his staff is the best you are going to find anywhere, I would not consider getting anything but biological dentistry.  The care and expertise you get from Dr. Behm is, again, the best you are going to find.   Biological dentistry costs a few bucks more from anyone, but if you read a couple of good books about it you won’t ever get any other kind of dentistry.

Here I sit, having just become a newly installed member of the “Amalgam-Free” society.  WOW!!! is the immediate feeling I get when I look at my gigantic smile, I can now see my lips framing all white, metal-free teeth.   Some of my toxic mercury filings were close to 50 years old.

For me it has been a 3-year’s research to determine “why,” “how” and “who.”   The “why” on getting my mouth fixed was that every meal brought discomfort, as my cheek, gums and tongue were receiving almost as many strikes as the food I was attempting to eat.  Sometimes I would swallow long before the food was chewed just to avoid the pain.

Braces, implants and crowns had been recommended to me some 3 years prior. After consulting with several orthodontists and oral surgeons, I decided no to those approaches.  My common sense knew not to remove metal and replace it with another metal.  So I decided “how” I wanted the work done.

Once that was done, I began the decision of finding a doctor who could design a totally metal-free partial plate.  The right doctor for me would need to operate from extensive knowledge, along with highly developed expertise and skill.  Next, his office would maintain current state of the art equipment, a spotlessly clean environment, as well as an organized and efficient staff.  I would need him to respect and honor my final decisions.  I would need his office staff to extend patience and willingness to understand me as a patient.

Enter Dr. Behm!!! and his magnificent staff that runs with him and for him so that the patient receives all and more care necessary for their procedures.  By now, I had established the ‘who” I wanted to do my work, even though he was a substantial drive away from where I live.

To all good stories, there must be a good ending.  This story is no exception.  First and foremost is the fact that my jawline aligns, I chew and swallow without pain during meals.

Second, the “hidden” surprise from that one bodily alignment has resulted in much less pain in my shoulder and neck area.

Third, I seem to be able to have a greater range of motion when I turn my head left and right.

Fourth, I have had bursitis in my right hip, and had not been able to go dancing for almost a year.  Of course, I cannot prove nor substantiate what I am about to say, but during the removal of amalgam from four teeth on the upper right, I felt HEAT leave my hip.  For whatever reason, or by whatever miracle, I never had bursitis after that day.  And more important for a dancer like me is the fact that I began dancing again that week, and have been ever since.   Hallelujah!!! and Hurrah!!!

Lastly, and yet extremely significant is my smile.  I am a 60-year old woman who has been told all my life how beautiful my smile was.  “A smile that bubbles over with happiness” were the words under my yearbook photo.  Over the years, I always prided myself in my smile because I felt it radiated the essence of who I was.  Yet, for the past several years I would make it a point not to smile broadly. I became self-conscious about the ‘mining cave” (abundance of metal) that peeked out.  Keep in mind that in addition to a mouthful of amalgams, I also had a metal-type partial with the metal clips.

Currently, I have allowed myself to smile broadly, extensively and laugh heartily again. Truly, it has made a difference in the way I am enjoying my social times.

I hope that I have been able to enlighten another other person to take the path necessary and be as happy as I am on the “other” side of the process.  Hopefully, you will write your won hallelujah and hurrah story!!!

I am an alternative health care doctor.  Ten years ago I realized that my teeth needed some attention.   I did not have a good understanding on how to take care of them, as my interests had been taking care of bodies.  I decided that it was inconsistent for me to take care of myself and have significant dental problems.

I went to a traditional dentist initially and he informed me that I had severe periodontal disease and needed several root canals.  I was very inquisitive about what was going on with my mouth and his explanations were contrary to everything I knew about health.  I was convinced that the mouth was separate from the “laws “ which the body operated on.

I proceeded to have deep tissue cleaning of my gums and root canals done on five of my teeth.  Every time I would go through this experience I felt worse.  Once I even had a car accident after a visit, even though I never had an accident previously.

Finally on the visit of my fifth root canal, my left arm went numb after the procedure. At this point I had more “fun” than I could stand, and decided that there had to be a better answer.

I started to research and fortunately found that biological dentistry existed.  I read some of Dr. Hal Huggins work and knew that there were people in dentistry who actually thought that the mouth was part of the body.  After several inquiries, I found that Dr. Behm was one of the “guys.”

After Dr. Behm’s exam – he actually muscle tested to see that materials were compatible with my body! – I realized that I had found a competent dentist.

We had to remove the root canal teeth and when the last one was gone, I felt my body – Sigh.  After this was taken care of I had all the mercury removed on my mouth.

The most dramatic effect was that I had much more energy.

Dr. Behm has the foresight and courage to lead the way in his profession, to take care of dental problem without creating more problems for your health.  From what I have seen these problems can be life threatening.

I appreciate him more that I can say.

Ray talks to you, explains what’s going on, gives you options where they exist, tells you why you need to do something and what happens if you don’t. You really feel that he cares about you and would like to talk to you all day, if he didn’t have other patients to see. The sense is that he is helping you care for your body, helping you be more responsible for your own condition.

Frankly, this goes a long way towards easing the pain and discomfort often associated with a visit to the dentist. I’m not saying this makes dentistry fun, but it definitely makes it a lot better.

Secondly, the methods and materials Dr. Behm uses are way in advance of what almost all dentists do. In my case this was really important as I had a serious problem with the amalgam fillings in my mouth. It’s been two years since he took the last mercury out of my mouth and I can say unequivocally that this has been a major step in — one of the two biggest steps — in restoring my health, which had been deteriorating for over a decade.
